The Georgian Triangle Humane Society Animal Hospital performs its 200th surgery!

The week of July 15th, 2019, the Georgian Triangle Humane Animal Hospital’s medical team successfully performed it’s 200th surgery!  The GHTS Animal Hospital has been open since April 2019, thanks to the support of PetSmart Charities of Canada and a core group of generous donors who were dedicated to bringing medical and surgical services into the animal shelter.

Surgeries at the GTHS Animal Hospital are currently performed on shelter animals who are being prepared for adoption as well as community feral cats.

On average, our Veterinarian, Dr. Anick Amaro, and Veterinary Technician, Emily Weaver, perform 10 spay and neuter surgeries a day.  They are supported by a hard-working crew of volunteers who have trained diligently on medical care support.

Having a hospital on-site means that animals who are preparing to become adopted are not transferred out from the shelter an additional time to have their spay and neuter surgery, which means less stress for the animal.  GTHS partner vet clinics have generously provided these services for the thousands of animals who required surgeries in the past.  Partner vets continue to support the GTHS when emergencies arise.

Thank you to PetSmart Charities of Canada, our incredible hospital donors and to our medical care team for realizing this amazing advancement in animals care at the GTHS!
