The GTHS Dog School is back up and running for 2025! Using humane, positive reinforcement training techniques, you and your dog will work together to learn basic commands like off, sit, stay, recall (come/here on command), and drop.

Ages: 12 weeks to 7 months 

Date/Time: Wednesdays 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

This class has been specifically designed for puppies in their delicate developmental stage.  Using humane, relationship and confidence building training techniques, your puppy will learn the following cues by the end of the course; Off, Leave it, Name Recognition, Sit, Stay, Release cue, Drop, Touch, Recall (come or here cue), Down, Loose leash walking and Mat with minor distractions.

Treats are initially used to encourage your puppy to problem solve and aid in the learning process however we coach you through the process of transferring your puppy from food reward to praise reward by the end of the 4 weeks. 

Other topics discussed in this class include;

• How to curve destructive chewing behaviours

• Biting and bite inhibition

• How to find what truly motivates your puppy

• How to address jumping up on family and guests

• Recognizing positive and potentially negative dog to dog play skills

• Waiting for food and at the door

• Shaping positive behaviours

• Socialization schedules and exposure to the outside world

• Desensitization to body handling

This class has a strict 8 dog limit in order to maintain that every puppy and family receives individual attention in order to achieve their training goals.  Small class sizes help us identify each puppy’s learning style, motivators which will allow the trainer the ability to make any technique modifications necessary to ensure that your puppy will succeed.   

Ages: 8 months and up

Date/Time: Wednesdays 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

This class is geared towards teaching older puppies and adult dogs their basic commands with mild to moderate distractions.  Using humane, relationship and confidence building training techniques, your dog will learn the following cues by the end of the course; Off, Leave it, Name Recognition, Sit, Stay, Release cue, Drop, Touch, Recall (come or here cue), Down, Loose leash walking and Mat with minor distractions.

This class has a strict 8 dog limit in order to maintain that every canine companion and family receives individual attention in order to achieve their training goals.  Small class sizes help us identify each dog’s learning style, motivators which will allow the trainer the ability to make any technique modifications necessary to ensure that your dog will succeed.

MEET THE TRAINER

Jodie Hawker is a passionate animal advocate with 18 years of experience working with local shelters and international dog rescue organizations. Her deep love for canines inspired her to become a certified positive reinforcement dog trainer through the International Positive Dog Training Association.

Jodie continues to expand her expertise and remains dedicated to ongoing professional development in force-free training and positive reinforcement methods. Since 2017, she has shared her knowledge by teaching classes at the Georgian Triangle Humane Society.
