Wasaga Beach Cats Program Making an Impact

It has been almost three months since the launch of the Wasaga Beach Cats program and the GTHS staff are pleased with the results. The Wasaga Beach Cats program is a spay/neuter assistance program aiming to reduce the feline population in the Town of Wasaga Beach and promoting responsible pet ownership. Since the beginning of May, 13 cats through been fixed through the program prevented 156 possible unwanted births.

“We are thrilled that Wasaga Beach Cats is making an impact when it matters – in the thick of kitten season. We are especially grateful to local veterinary businesses that are welcoming Wasaga Beach cats approved applicants into their clinics.” stated executive director Sonya Reichel. “The success of this program is the result of everyone working together.”

At the GTHS animal shelter, adoption rooms and foster homes are still at high capacity. July saw over 90 cats and kittens enter their program in need of help. The society is asking the community for donations of kitten canned food and cleaning supplies to help them keep up with the demand.

To apply for the Wasaga Beach Cats program call GTHS at 705-445-5204 ex 221 or visit www.gths.ca. Applications are being accepted daily and can be approved in less than 24 hours.

“We would love to see three times as many cats get fixed through the program by the end of the year.” Claims Sonya Reichel.
