COLLINGWOOD, ON: It was a successful day for the Georgian Triangle Humane Society as they hosted their 3rd Annual Friends for Life walkathon last Saturday September 19th at the Collingwood Curling Club and Central Park. Regardless of the daunting weather forecast, animal lovers from all over Ontario gathered together to raise much needed funds for animals in need throughout our community.
“We are extremely thankful to have joined other humane societies and Ontario SPCA branches across the province to raise awareness and much needed funds for our shelter and its operations” stated Jessica Woolsey, resource development coordinator for GTHS. “We are so thankful to our amazing sponsors, the vendors, volunteers and hundreds of participants that took part through donations, pledges and awareness.”
This year, the GTHS’ Friends for Life Walkathon rose just over $20,000 and all funds will help to support the hundreds of animals that need help in the Georgian Triangle area each year. “We have seen a recording breaking number of animals pass through our doors and this event will ensure that we can continue helping those in need.” said Sonya Reichel, executive director for GTHS. “As a 100% privately funded charity, these valuable funds will help to pay our extensive medical and supply bills to support the animals within our shelter.”
The event hosted two legged and four legged participants who took part in a 2.5/5km walk, spent some time in the “pawvillion” filled with numerous exciting local vendors, exciting entertainment from Red Barn Event Centre all the while helping to raise funds through pledges, an on-site pet photo booth and exciting raffle! The 4th annual GTHS Friends For Life Walkathon will be held on Saturday September 24th 2016 and with the GTHS continually helping more animals each year, this is an amazing way to get involved!
