Event Volunteer

The Georgian Triangle Humane Society is a not-for-profit charity that provides abandoned, neglected and abused domestic animals a second chance in life at a forever home. We rely heavily on a variety of activities to raise awareness and funds to help the dogs and cats in our care.

In 2022, by promoting GTHS programs and services, more than 1230 cats and dogs were provided shelter, 1187 animals found their forever home, 2010 youth were positively impacted, in excess of 2600 spay/neuter/dental/specialized surgeries took place, 1159 new donors supported our mission, 2966 people benefitted from our services and our website was viewed 450,000 times.

Description
Reporting to the Event Coordinator, Event Volunteers undertake activities to entice interest in GTHS Signature events (such as Walkathon, GTHS Golf Tournament, etc.), represent the GTHS at events within our community (such as Christmas parades and third party fundraisers), and also provide onsite support to ensure these events are successful. This volunteer makes a positive impact representing and providing the first impression of our organization, and ensures that attendees enjoy their experience. As the first point of contact for the GTHS, memorable, fun interactions and excellent customer service differentiates GTHS volunteers from the rest.
Time Commitment
4-6 hours on an ad hoc basis (primarily weekend or evening)
Roles and Responsibilities
Based on the Event Volunteer’s area(s) of interest and assigned activities:
  • Distributes flyers
  • Liaises with supporters to collect auction items, donations (financial or in-kind), etc.
  • Coordinates pick-up / drop-off of items required for event (event signage, auction items, GTHS banners and marketing materials, etc.)
  • Assists with placement of event signage
  • Assists with event set-up (decorations, table layout, etc.)
  • Registers event attendees upon their arrival
  • Greets, welcomes, thanks event attendees encountered
  • Sells raffle tickets, GTHS ‘swag’ or third parties’ fundraising products / services
  • Displays materials, auction items, etc. for maximum impact
  • Answers questions about the event, GTHS, programs and services
  • Assists with tidy up after event
  • Liaises with the Event Coordinator about any issues and provides assistance as required
Qualifications
  • A minimum age of 16 or 18, based on the assigned activities
  • A commitment to animal welfare
  • Neat and tidy appearance
  • Self-motivated
  • Multi-tasking skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Friendly and personable attitude
  • Customer service experience is an asset
  • Able to work independently or within a small team, and with the public
  • Access to transportation
 Working Conditions:
  • Physical demands of the position include standing for a prolonged period, as well as carrying and lifting (event signage, auction items, GTHS banners and marketing materials, etc.)
  • Christmas parade volunteers will be exposed to cold weather conditions and may be required to stand or walk for a prolonged period of time
