Pets Bring Us Joy

Pets make us smile. Pets bring us joy. Pets are our family.
It’s been one of those years for Tara and her family. Life is busy enough with three young kids, but in addition to it all, Tara has faced the loss of her mother to cancer, followed by her step-father, who sadly passed months after her mother with the same type of cancer.
The past year for Tara meant putting her job aside as a hair dressing teacher to take care of her parents and then the dreaded aftermath of their affairs. The stress of it all has taken a toll on her family and things are not as easy as they once were.

Several months ago, Blu entered the scene and things started to look a bit brighter. Blu is a fun loving, energetic husky pup. She has bright, intense sky-blue eyes and a soft fluffy coat. Tara’s family fell in love immediately!

One morning when the kids were getting themselves out the door, Blu unfortunately got out and made an energetic dash for the road. The unspeakable happened and right there in front of the family, Blu was struck by a car. Heartbroken, Tara ran for the pup and went into action mode to get help. She called her veterinarian and made immediate plans for surgery. Sadly, the cost of the surgery was out of reach. So, Tara called the GTHS to see what her options were. In the back of her mind, the gut-wrenching decision might have to be made to surrender Blu to the care of the GTHS Animal Centre. She knew the kids would be devastated.
Tara spoke to Lauren, Program Coordinator, and was given another option. The Pet Retention program would cover the cost of Blu’s hip and leg surgery, so that she could return home.

The surgery was successfully performed, and three happy kids were waiting at the door that day when their furry sibling came home wearing a pink cast on her hind leg. Love, kisses and hugs filled the room and Blu returned to the care of a very relieved Tara.

By joining the GTHS monthly giving program, as low as $15 per month, can provide care to a homeless animal.
$50 a month can ensure more pets like Blu can stay with their families in emergency situations.
