It’s Hip to Microchip

Check out the story below for a story with a very happy ending, all because of microchipping:

A couple weeks ago, we had one of our adopter’s email us with quite the story. We thought this was a pretty great one to share…

“Hi GTHS!
Wanted to share our “Lucy chronicles” and our incredible story.
We adopted Lucy (then Trillium) from GTHS several years ago and have taken her back and forth with us to Florida for several years. Last April, as we were driving back through West Virginia, she bolted at a remote rest stop in the mountains. We enlisted the Help of local organizations and many wonderful volunteers walked the mountains, posted notices, left out food etc.

She had tags with phone numbers and the microchip of course and I knew she was a clever little survivor. But after 6 months of no signs of her I had accepted that we might not see her again…
Then, this Thanksgiving weekend, we got a notice… We have been back and forth with the finder, who eventually had the chip scanned – and it is Lucy! Can you believe that?!
We are making arrangements to go get her on our way down to Florida again.

We are all kind of amazed at our resourceful little lady, as well as grateful to the many organizations who enabled us to find her – to GTHS (for microchipping their animals among other things), Paw Boost and local West Virginia rescue organizations (where we posted our Lost notice for Lucy and where the finder posted her “found” notice), and the 24 PetWatch chip registry.

Such an international network of good, kind people!
And to our remarkable little Lucy, who after 6 months was apparently found in pretty good shape close to the rest stop where we lost her – with a few chipmunk carcasses. She is a sweet, affectionate cat, but a fierce hunter! I’d like to get a “survivor” medal for her and submit the picture for next year’s calendar!!”

This absolutely incredible story really shows the important of microchipping our pets! We are absolutely thrilled for Lucy and her family, who are soon to be reunited after this amazing kitty’s 6 month adventure.
