Guardian Angels to the Rescue!
All of the dogs that arrive at GTHS are looking for a forever home. Some of them also need guardian angels, and thankfully there are angels in our community who can help!
Fitch came to us from a First Nations reservation in Northern Ontario, where he was a “community dog” with no indoor home and no family to call his very own. Living outdoors and dealing with bullying from other community dogs had taken a toll – Fitch was filthy and heavily matted, with bite scars and wounds inflicted by the bullies. All of these were easily treatable, but when he tested positive for heartworm, we knew we had a greater challenge to restore Fitch to full health.
He needed expensive, lengthy and risky heartworm treatment, so we reached out through our Guardian Angel Program to raise the funds that would ensure Fitch had the care he deserved. The response was tremendous and we were able to give him the necessary treatment.
With the help of a wonderful foster family, Fitch was able to recover in a calm, stress-free environment and receive lots of one-on-one attention, care and love. He came through the treatment with flying colours!
Happy and healthy once again, he was adopted by a wonderful family in December and spent his first Christmas indoors, basking in joy, love, comfort and safety.
“He is doing amazing,” says Fitch’s new mom. “He is a blessing to our family. He had his first Christmas with us and got to hang out with his cousin dog. He enjoyed that! He also enjoys his family movie night. Thank you again for making our family complete.”
The Guardian Angel Program was established at GTHS to help cover expenses for animals requiring extra medical attention while in our care. As a Guardian Angel, you can help cover the cost of treatment for injuries, illnesses, and long-term abuse or neglect. With your assistance, our Guardian Angel Animals receive the veterinary care they need and overcome these conditions to find loving, forever homes.
