GTHS Receives Recognition

The Georgian Triangle Humane Society is so proud to celebrate two wonderful women who recently received such well deserved awards.

On Thursday May 31st amazing volunteer Karen Fawcett was honoured with the Collingwood Chambers of Commerce Volunteer of the Year Award.

Karen Fawcett has been a dedicated volunteer at the Georgian Triangle Humane Society since 2013, volunteering four days a week. She is always on-the-go at the shelter, tirelessly caring for our sick, injured and recovering cats and splits her afternoons between her Cat Care Technician and Cat Adoptions Counsellor duties. Karen diligently works with potential adopters to find them the perfect feline match, and has an amazing track record at finding fur-ever homes for our most needy kitties. Karen is pivotal in our organization adopting out over 900 CATS AND KITTENS last year!

On Sunday June 3rd Executive Director Sonya Reichel received the 2018 Chair’s Award at the Ontario SPCA annual conference. An excerpt from Catherine MacNeil, chair of the Ontario SPCA board of directors, speech “We are pleased to present the award to an Executive Director who’s performance has been stellar. With support of the Board, volunteers and staff members, this ED has implemented programs like humane education in schools, the barn cat program and ongoing adoption programs. This year, the goal is to adopt 1000 animals and we know they’ll do it! One of her key successes was a lengthy process that resulted in the development of a strategic plan that was based on community needs, feedback and expectations. This is awesome! Another milestone in 2018 was over $24,000 raised through National Cup Cake Day – all volunteer run! And she is not stopping there. Our recipient and her Board are currently planning the expansion of their Humane Society to include spay/neuter services. Please join me in congratulating Sonya Reichel, Executive Director, Georgian Triangle Humane Society, recipient of the Chair’s Award for 2018.”

Sonya’s leadership, and compassion is shown every day at the GTHS and we look forward to an exciting future ahead!

We are so happy to share these recognition, well done Sonya & Karen!
