GEORGIAN TRIANGLE HUMANE SOCIETY RECEIVES $40,000 ADOPTION GRANT FROM PETSMART CHARITIES OF CANADA™

GEORGIAN TRIANGLE HUMANE SOCIETY (GTHS) has received a $40,000 grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada to help prepare more homeless pets in the south Georgian Bay region (including Town of Collingwood, Town of Wasaga Beach, The Town of Blue Mountains, Municipality of Meaford, Clearview Township and Grey Highlands Township) for adoption. An estimated one hundred thousand pets make their way into shelters each year in Canada. With the help of this grant, the organization will continue to offer compassionate care to animals awaiting adoption, which includes veterinary care, staffing, sheltering, and supplies.  The grant will also help facilitate promotional events and activities, including offsite adoptions at participating PetSmart retail locations, to help encourage adoptions for pets in GTHS care.

This is Chicco, who was recently adopted after 104 days in GTHS care.  The PetSmart Charities Adoption grant will help the GTHS care for long-standing resident pets, like Chicco, so he can receive the love and support he needs to thrive while waiting for his forever family.

“We are so grateful to PetSmart Charities of Canada for this adoption grant.  With animal surrenders up 55% versus last year, more animals are coming into our care,” explains Sonya Reichel, executive director of the GTHS. “This additional support will help us provide the compassionate care these animals deserve while they wait for their forever homes and will help us provide innovative solutions to help facilitate more adoptions, such as offsite adoptions.”

“Shelter and rescue groups across the country continue to navigate realities like full facilities, limited access to veterinary care and staffing shortages. That’s why it’s more important than ever to support partners like the Georgian Triangle Humane Society who helps thousands of pets each year,” said Heidi Marston, director of pet placement at PetSmart Charities.  “We’re grateful for partners like the GTHS who are not only committed to the pets in their care but who support the needs of the broader pet-loving community.”
