Sandy can primarily be found in Dog World, but says she’s “up for anything”. Sandy helps with transport (usually long distance), feeding and caring for our pups, doing evening
let-out and is also a member of our Health & Safety Committee.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING WITH THE GTHS?
I’m not sure how long it’s been, but I started about 6 months after the shelter opened.
WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
I came to GTHS because I have depression, but keep coming back because I love helping the animals and being with
like-minded people helps my mental health.
WHAT PETS DO YOU SHARE YOUR LIFE WITH?
I currently have 1 cat and 1 dog. Tia was adopted from a different rescue, but Raven is from GTHS. She originally came from the Timmins Humane Society and was known as Rowen. I owe it to Sonya for bringing this goofy girl into my life, as she asked me to do the transfer just as I was starting to look for a pup.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHEN DID YOU MOVE TO THE AREA?
I was born and raised right here in Collingwood. I tried to leave but it just wasn’t in the cards… lol
WHICH TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE?
My talent would be just to do more to help more animals.
WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF THE BEST DAY EVER?
My best day ever would involve spending time with my parents and listening to family stories.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PASTIME (HOBBY)?
Favourite pastimes include doing my genealogy, being at the shelter, working on my renovations and helping odd wildlife that comes across my path.
DO YOU HAVE ANY PHOBIAS OR FEARS?
SPIDERS!!!!
IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ANY CELEBRITY, WHO WOULD IT BE?
I can’t think of a celebrity, but would love to have dinner with an ancestor – just to chat about family history.
Thank you Sandy, for all you do for the GTHS!
