Feature Volunteer: Ruby

When Ruby started volunteering at the GTHS, she helped at the front desk and walked dogs. She’s now a Dog Adoption Counselor, helping dogs find their forever homes, and has been Foster mom to ten dogs and nine puppies to date. Here Ruby is pictured with boxer puppies she fostered for a week.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING WITH THE GTHS?
I started volunteering at the animal centre in 2011; it was a much smaller organization at that time.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
Seeing the dogs arrive, watch them thrive and get a second chance of a great loving home, and the cats as well! Also, seeing the happy faces on people when they adopt. Happy tears flow at the animal centre.

WHAT PETS DO YOU SHARE YOUR LIFE WITH?
We don’t have any pets at home as my husband and I are away for extended periods of time; our grandchildren are in Europe and the US, so we spend a lot of time with them. I have shares in my daughter’s two rescue dogs 😊

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHEN DID YOU MOVE TO THE AREA?
I was born and raised in Scotland. My husband and I came to Collingwood when he was recruited for the Shipyards (a long time ago).

WHICH TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE?
I’d love to sketch and paint.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF THE BEST DAY EVER?
Being beside a lake or seashore with family and friends, eating good food and drinking good wine!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PASTIME (HOBBY)?
My favourite pastimes are walking and biking (very casual biking).

DO YOU HAVE ANY PHOBIAS OR FEARS?
Snakes!!!

IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ANY CELEBRITY, WHO WOULD IT BE? That’s a hard choice…. David Attenborough, he is amazing!!

Thank you Ruby, for all you do for the GTHS!
