Feature Volunteer: Janet

As a registered charity, without any federal or provincial government funding, the GTHS relies on the generosity of our supporters to help us continue to provide abandoned, neglected and abused domestic animals with a second chance at a happy life.

Janet is fundamental in raising awareness and funds for the GTHS in the community, by distributing posters and placing donation boxes in animal-friendly organizations across the Georgian Triangle area.

Although many of our volunteer positions are scheduled, there are options for people who can’t commit to a specific time or day. Janet’s volunteering activities give her the independence and flexibility to fit her role around her schedule and lifestyle; most of which she does whilst running errands or enjoying time outdoors.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING WITH THE GTHS?
I started volunteering 8 years ago, in 2011.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
What keeps me coming back is the people; everyone is very dedicated to what they do within the organization.

WHAT PETS DO YOU SHARE YOUR LIFE WITH?
Although I currently don’t have a pet, we did adopt many years ago and now I dog-sit for family members.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHEN DID YOU MOVE TO THE AREA?
I was born and raised in Hanover, Ontario and moved to Collingwood over 30 years ago to work in a family business, and to be close to the ski hill and the water.

WHICH TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE?
I wish I could perform or dance. As a child I would have liked to learn baton twirling.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF THE BEST DAY EVER?
My best days are always spring skiing in the mountains.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PASTIME (HOBBY)?
I enjoy spending my time outside; skiing, biking, hiking and in my garden.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PHOBIAS OR FEARS?
Answering questions about myself!! I’m slightly claustrophobic.

IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ANY CELEBRITY, WHO WOULD IT BE?
Although they aren’t celebrities, I would like to be able to have dinner with my grandparents, just to have the opportunity to find out more about my family’s history.

Thank you Janet, for all you do for the GTHS!
