Feature Volunteer: Dave

Dave is a dedicated Monday volunteer, who cleans the main cat room on Monday mornings (with great fellow volunteers he says!), and later in the day he works on PetPoint; handling data entry of intakes, medical status and updates, and final closure of files after adoptions.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING WITH THE GTHS?
I have been volunteering at GTHS for over 2 years.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
I am like all volunteers at GTHS, with our love of animals and our desire to help animals in need. That keeps all of us wanting to be involved and coming back to GTHS. I also enjoy the comradery in working with my fellow volunteers and the dedicated staff at GTHS.

WHAT PETS DO YOU SHARE YOUR LIFE WITH?
My family has had cats since I was a youngster (many years ago!). My wife Cathy and I had two wonderful cats (Oscar and Cleo who lived for 23 years!) who have passed away. We have taken a hiatus from cat ownership as we are fulfilling some travel dreams in retirement. I get “my cat fix” every Monday at GTHS.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHEN DID YOU MOVE TO THE AREA?
l was born in Brampton and have previously lived in Thunder Bay and primarily Toronto. We had a weekend home in Collingwood for 16 years before we retired and moved permanently to Collingwood in 2009.

WHICH TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE?
A better golfer!

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF THE BEST DAY EVER?
Travelling with my wife to new places.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PASTIME (HOBBY)?
Relaxing with a coffee and the newspaper first thing each morning.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PHOBIAS OR FEARS?
Ophidiophobia – fear of snakes. Yuk!

IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ANY CELEBRITY, WHO WOULD IT BE?
Winston Churchill – Having recently seen the movies Darkest Hour and Dunkirk, it would be fascinating to discuss the enormous challenges he faced in dealing with and making decisions during World War 2 (while having a glass of scotch and smoking a cigar!).

Thank you Dave, for all you do for the GTHS and our animals!
