Daniela is part of the Dog Care Team, a Red Walker and a Transport Volunteer. She has also recently helped in an Administrative capacity and is our ‘go to’ person when we’re sourcing items for the shelter.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING WITH THE GTHS?
I have been volunteering at GTHS since October 2017.
WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
I have always loved dogs. From when I was little and walked our family dog, and brought strays home from the park on so many occasions – My mom had the local Animal Control on speed dial! Getting to walk or play with the dogs in the dog yard, and all the kisses; there is nothing better than that to start your day.
WHAT PETS DO YOU SHARE YOUR LIFE WITH?
Currently we have Axel, who is a GTHS Alumni. He too gets to
volunteer at the GTHS. When Courtney needs to determine if a new intake is dog friendly, she asks me to bring Axel in. He is very in-tune with the communication that happens between dogs.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHEN DID YOU MOVE TO THE AREA?
I was born in Toronto, raised in Brampton, and have been a Collingwood weekender my entire life. My dad built our cottage when he immigrated to Canada in the mid 1960’s. My parents retired up here almost 20 years ago, so my husband and 2 kids moved up here in August 2017 and now call Blue Mountains home.
WHICH TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE?
I would love to be able to play a musical instrument; there’s nothing nicer than tunes coming out of a piano or a guitar.
WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF THE BEST DAY EVER?
Sunshine, a cold beverage in hand, a good book or the company of friends sitting around the pond or pool.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PASTIME (HOBBY)?
I am a scrapbooker, skier, sometimes a biker and an excellent lounger-arounder!
DO YOU HAVE ANY PHOBIAS OR FEARS?
I absolutely HATE bats – for a good reason. I somehow set off a swarm of them when I was travelling through a beautiful graveyard on Lake Como at dusk. It truly was like a scene out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie!
IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ANY CELEBRITY, WHO WOULD
IT BE?
I would love to have been able to meet my paternal grandparents. I keep getting told that I have more of my father in me, than my mother, so having the chance to know them would have been nice.
Thank you Daniela, for all you do for the GTHS!
