Feature Volunteer: Brenda

Brenda volunteers in the early hours of the morning as a Food Fairy. This vital role ensures our shelter cats are fed before 8am; enabling staff and volunteers to focus on our cats’ medical and environmental needs, in readiness for their fur-ever home.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING WITH THE GTHS?
I began volunteering in April 2017.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
I love being around the animals.

WHAT PETS DO YOU SHARE YOUR LIFE WITH?
I don’t have any pets of my own at the moment, but I do have two ‘grand-dogs’ and I often dog sit for my friends.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHEN DID YOU MOVE TO THE AREA?
I was born and raised in Oakville, but my husband and I always intended to retire in the area and ended up here sooner than expected. Love it!!!

WHICH TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE?
It would love to be able to play the piano.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF THE BEST DAY EVER?
An ideal day is spending time with my family.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PASTIME (HOBBY)?
Anything outdoors that this area has to offer – hiking and walking with the dogs, snowshoeing, skiing… As Blue Mountain says, live it outside!

DO YOU HAVE ANY PHOBIAS OR FEARS?
Deep dark bodies of water.

IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ANY CELEBRITY, WHO WOULD IT BE?
The current Dalai Lama because of his devotion to the pursuit of humanitarian and environment causes, global peace, and dialogue between religions and peoples of all horizons. “Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.”
