Feature Volunteer: Ben

Ben is an amazing volunteer, who works ‘behind the scenes’. He cheerfully and reliably assists with our morning animal transportation needs, and willingly helps out on short notice.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING WITH THE GTHS?
I have been volunteering at the GTHS since December 2016.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
I like seeing all the different cats and dogs, plus driving around gets me up and about early in the morning. I also have a mandate with my employer to accumulate 56 volunteer hours per year.

WHAT PETS DO YOU SHARE YOUR LIFE WITH?
I adopted Garfield (a big orange cat, as shown) from the GTHS in January last year.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHEN DID YOU MOVE TO THE AREA?
I was born in Toronto, grew up in Gravenhurst then Toronto, completed my post secondary studies in Guelph, moved back to Toronto again for 10 years and then came to Collingwood, because I ski regularly and enjoy the beach. Also, my wife grew up here.

WHICH TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE?
I’d like to be better at renovations, construction and home improvement skills.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF THE BEST DAY EVER?
Most days are pretty good here in Collingwood. The one day that comes to mind was a few weeks ago in Cuba – I finished a novel and went kite surfing in the afternoon!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PASTIME (HOBBY)?
Kite boarding and software engineering (although this is my job too).

DO YOU HAVE ANY PHOBIAS OR FEARS?
Not that I can think of.

IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ANY CELEBRITY, WHO WOULD IT BE?
I have no idea!

Thank you Ben, for all you do for the GTHS and our animals!
