Feature Volunteer: Ann

Ann is a relatively new GTHS Volunteer, but is an integral member of our Cat Care and Foster Teams. As our Monday Food Fairy she can be found at the Animal Centre in the early hours of the morning feeding our cats. Her caring nature makes her ideally suited to the role of Feline Enrichment Volunteer and as a foster mom for cats in need. Ann is also one of several volunteers assisting with our Pet Pantry during the Covid-19 pandemic; providing pet supplies to those in need.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN VOLUNTEERING WITH THE GTHS?
I’ve been volunteering since the end of February last year.

WHAT KEEPS YOU COMING BACK?
The animals and the people keep me coming back.

WHAT PETS DO YOU SHARE YOUR LIFE WITH?
I have two kittens, Quinn and Arial. Quinn was a failed foster and I adopted Arial as a friend for Quinn because she is deaf.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHEN DID YOU MOVE TO THE AREA?
I was born in Malta and spent the early years of my life in England, but I consider the High Park area of Toronto as the place I was raised. I moved to the area after looking for a place to retire and Meaford was exactly what I was looking for – I have a great view of the lake.

WHICH TALENT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE?
I would like to be able to talk to and to understand animals, so I would know what is bothering them and let them know that they will be alright.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF THE BEST DAY EVER?
My best day ever is a beautiful sunny spring day spent with my daughter and her two dogs in her backyard.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PASTIME (HOBBY)?
I love to be able to go for walks around town; to find new routes to take and to discover new things and places. I used to love to knit, but it is hard for me to do now.

DO YOU HAVE ANY PHOBIAS OR FEARS?
No 😊

IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ANY CELEBRITY, WHO WOULD IT BE?
I would like to say someone profound who did something great in the world, but I could only think of one celebrity I would like to have dinner with and that would be Hugh Jackman. Do I really need to say why?!?

Thank you Ann, for all you do for the GTHS!
