An Evening of Excellence – celebrating National Volunteer Week

Thursday April 20th was a special evening for the volunteers and team at the Georgian Triangle Humane Society. Celebrating National Volunteer Week (April 23rd to April 29th) the organization held an Evening of Excellence, recognizing outstanding contributions from the hardworking volunteers of both the animal shelter and Treasure Tails retail store.

A special thanks to The Strand Restaurant for volunteering their gorgeous restaurant to host the event. The meal was expertly prepared by Chef Taylor with all time and associated costs being donated by local community businesses and supporters. It was truly an evening to remember.

“The volunteers are the heartbeat of our organization, we simply could not survive without them. We are forever grateful and indebted for their support and dedication to our animals and work. This evening is just a small way that we can say thanks.” Sonya Reichel, executive director for the Georgian Triangle Humane Society.

The GTHS operates with no government funds, so the volunteer team is a very important part of keeping the shelter and Treasure Tails running.

The highlight of the evening was when 12 volunteers were recognized for their 10 years of service. The volunteers were awarded a commemorative pin and were added to the newly installed Wall of Excellence at the GTHS Animal Shelter.

The recognized volunteers included: Kathi Reid, Deb Boyd, John Worts, Gloria Bowman, Maggie Lowe, Jackie Robson, Joanne Anderson, Sandy Lager, Shawn McLean, Joan Doner, Janice Merrifield and Lisa Rowland. We are forever grateful to them for their unwavering devotion, commitment and support.

Details of how to join the volunteer team and roles available are at www.gths.ca/volunteer. The next orientation session for those looking to volunteer is on Thursday April 27th at 4:30 at the GTHS Animal Shelter, 549 Tenth Line in Collingwood.

A special thanks to MyCollingwood.ca and Dave West Photography for covering this event.
