Why Dental Health Matters
Your pet’s oral health is an important part of their overall well-being. Dental disease can lead to pain, infection, and even impact vital organs. At GTHS, we provide safe, compassionate dental care to keep your pet healthy and comfortable.
What's Included in Your Pet's Dental Care
- A pre-surgical examination with a veterinarian two weeks before the procedure
- Same-day care (please note: overnight care is not available)
- A comprehensive dental procedure including:
- Dental exam
- Cleaning and polishing
- Dental x-rays
- Tooth extractions; if required
- Anesthesia and all necessary anesthetic medications
- Post-surgical pain medication to keep your pet comfortable while they recover
- A follow-up visit, if recommended by our veterinarian, to ensure proper healing
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The GTHS Animal Hospital provides dental care for otherwise healthy pets on an appointment basis. We do not provide pre-anesthetic bloodwork – please book surgery with your primary veterinarian if you require pre-anesthetic bloodwork.
For your pet to be eligible for surgery they must meet the following criteria:
- Under 10 years of age
- In good health, with no chronic medical conditions
- Not currently on medications (apart from monthly preventatives)
- In good body condition – not overweight. Please review this body condition chart.
- Maximum weight of 100 pounds: an additional fee applies for dogs over 80 pounds.
DENTAL FEE SCHEDULE
All dental fees include a pre-anesthetic exam, dental cleaning and polishing, dental radiographs (x-rays), and post-surgical pain medication.
Bookings will open at 10am on the first Wednesday of each month for appointments in the following month.
Once your appointment request has been reviewed, you will receive a confirmation email. Please read the confirmation email closely, as it contains important information such as location, pick up/drop off times, payment instructions, and drop off instructions. Please allow 1-2 business days to receive your confirmation.
PAYMENT
Payment will be due in advance. Payment can be made online via Mastercard, Visa, or debit, or in person by cash. If payment is not received within seven days of invoicing, your appointment may be cancelled.
PRE-SURGICAL INSTRUCTIONS
Animals must be fasted the night before surgery, please remove food by midnight the night before surgery. Always provide water for your pet.
It is important that you arrive on time for your appointment; anyone arriving more than 15 minutes past their set check-in time will not be accepted for surgery.

What signs indicate my pet needs dental care?
Common signs include bad breath, yellow or brown buildup on teeth, difficulty eating, drooling, or pawing at the mouth. If you notice any of these, it’s time for a dental checkup.
How do I prepare my pet for dental surgery?
Your pet should not eat after midnight the night before surgery. Water is usually allowed until the morning. Our team will provide detailed instructions when you book.
Will my pet be in pain after the procedure?
We provide pain relief medication to keep your pet comfortable during recovery. Most pets bounce back quickly and feel much better after their dental treatment.
How long will my pet stay at the GTHS?
Dental procedures are same-day care. Your pet will go home the same day once they are awake and stable.
I'm concerned about my pet undergoing anesthesia?
We understand that anesthesia can feel concerning for pet parents. Rest assured, your pet will be closely monitored by our trained veterinary team throughout the entire procedure. We use modern anesthetic protocols and equipment to ensure your pet’s safety and comfort every step of the way.
