National Cupcake Day is the most delicious way to show support for animals in need of help!
The Georgian Triangle Humane Society (GTHS) participated in a nationwide event – and final tallies are still pending as cupcake parties are still happening around town! All in all, over 2,800 cupcakes were consumed for our cause! And through our on-site bake sale and pre-orders, funds raised have surpassed last year’s numbers by 75% and 40% respectively!
On Sunday, Feb 25th, after months of preparation, many bags of flour and an undisclosed amount of sugar, National Cupcake Day kicked off with the Cupcakes, Coffee & Kittens event at GTHS. Doors opened to a steady stream of hundreds of happy faces looking to satisfy their sweet tooth for a great cause. Early birds were well rewarded with a wide selection of artistic and colourful cupcakes, including vegan and gluten free!
This year, our National Cupcake Day brought in the largest sponsorship ever received as an organization. Royal LePage Trinity considers the GTHS a partner and they were instrumental in the success of our event. Media coverage was extensive with 95.1 The Peak FM, 97.7 The Beach, MyCollingwood.ca, CollingwoodToday.ca, Georgian Life Media, On the Bay Magazine, and CTV News Barrie visiting our shelter!
In the afternoon, the 2nd Annual Peak FM Creative Cupcake Challenge showcased the best of the best of gourmet cupcakes in the region. And the grand title goes too…. Heli Vogrin at Heavenly Cafe – for the second year in a row! A deliciously close call, second and third place kudos go to Grandma’s Beach Treats and The Smoke for their lovely and illustrious creations.
Following the party on Monday morning, the cupcake crusades continued. Over 1,500 pre-ordered cupcakes were loaded into cars and delivered by an army of volunteers to local businesses throughout Collingwood and surrounding areas in Meaford and Wasaga Beach.
“This is truly a labour of love. All of this was made possible by an amazing team of volunteers. While the results are not yet in, I’m so very proud of the work we’ve done together to ultimately raise funds for our furry friends, ” states Pam Odam, Chair of the National Cupcake Day organizing committee at GTHS.
Once again, this year’s National Cupcake Day was a sweet success, most notably for the shelter animals who we love so much. We are extremely grateful for the support from our community, always caring, compassionate, and generous.
