Animal Advocate Award – Pat Cosgrove

By Sara Carson of the Collingwood Connection

When homeless kittens and cats are in need of love and care, Pat Cosgrove is there.

The Collingwood woman is a cat foster parent for Georgian Triangle Humane Society. Felines live with Reichel until they are ready to be adopted.

“Without volunteers like Pat, there would not be a safe haven for these needy animals” said Sonya Reichel

Cosgrove began rescuing cats when she was a young woman living in her first apartment. She took in a litter of kittens that had been abandoned. Cosgrove bathed, fed and cared for them until she found each one a home, Reichel said.

Cosgrove said the cats depend on her for food, attention and love.

“It just gives me a great thrill to come home after work and play with the babies,” she said.

Cosgrove has volunteered with many rescue groups over the years. She has been with the Georgian Triangle Humane Society for four years. Along with being a foster parent, she volunteers at the reception desk and performs many administrative duties.

“Her greatest reward is when she sees these healthy and happy kittens going to their forever homes,” Reichel said.
