My wife and I brought Zen (aka Zenith the great and Zenster) home in late May. From the moment he entered the meeting room at GTHS we knew he was the right dog for us. Zen fit in at home right away. He found his place on the couch in the evening and learned his part and job outside quickly. Our family cat and Zen became friends shortly after. The chickens learned slowly, but they learned Zen was there to keep them safe. All though Zen is already 6 years old he still has a lot of playful energy in him. He loves to chase us and critters around the property. He will literally jump for joy when his leash comes out for a walk. He loves his walks every day, rain or shine, morning, afternoon and night.
I will add a quick little story here. On the day of our 3 months with Zen early in the morning we went out side into the yard. Zen does very well off leash at home. So nothing out of the ordinary as he wandered around. To my surprise I saw a black and white blur followed by a much larger black and white blur. Zen had found the skunk that had been bothering some of the neighbors. From that day on I knew him and I were in it for the long haul and I couldn’t be happier. He has since regained his puppy dog smell and cuddles have been resumed.
The gentle and loving demeanor he carries has helped him make lots of friends with the neighbors and other dogs in our family. Zen loves to cuddle up on the bed or couch or porch or anywhere really. He has become an amazing companion. In such a short time he has helped our family through some tough challenges. Being there to make you laugh when he burps or allowing himself to be used as a pillow. He seems to always know what is needed.
After losing or first family dog suddenly to old age. We did not think we would be ready for another dog. Zen is the complete opposite of our dog Degan. Degan was a Lhasapoo mix and was no bigger than Zen’s leg. Degan was all white with some black spots. Zen is all black with a white paw and chest. These two dogs couldn’t be father apart in breeds but in personality they are almost the same.
We can’t express enough how much of an impact Zen has made on our family and friends. We are very grateful to the staff at the GTHS for the work they put into Zen. We vow to always care, love and provide for him the happiness he has provided us.
Happy Tails Zen! We love hearing about life in your new home, and the new friends you have made!
