We received this delightful ‘day in the life’ report from Xena, a sweet 10-year-old girl who was adopted at the GTHS this fall:
Hello, Xena here, sending you an update on my new home and family.
7:00am: Wake up when the youngest one goes to school. Sneak to Dad’s room and crawl under the covers. I write my own invitation.
8:00am: Walk.
8:20am: Breakfast. They put the kibbles in a ball with a hole because I “inhale the food” and “can use the mental stimulation”. Nonsense, if you ask me.
9:00am: Naptime while Dad goes to the store. I know it’s a short time by myself because he always shows me the yellow grocery bin.
10:30am: Walk.
11:00am: Playtime.
1:00pm: Serious walk in the forest. Unfortunately, the side by side is stored away for the season
3:00pm: Youngest daughter home from school. Show her my toys. Greetings, kisses, the works.
3:30pm: Sharpen my toofers on a bone. Playtime.
5:00pm: Mom comes home. I act like a fool. Then hang around in the kitchen while Dad cooks dinner. I never get any scraps, but I am patient. Just wait.
6:00pm: Dinner. In a bowl, thank God.
6:30pm: Entertain the family with my zoomies. I run around and jump on every chair and on the couch and even the coffee table, while they all clap and sing: Zoomies, Zoomies!!! They’re easily impressed.
7:00pm: Naptime.
8:00pm: Walk around the block.
8:30pm: Cuddle on the chair with whoever will let me.
10:00pm: Last walk.
10:15pm: Sleep on my doggie bed covered with blankets. Next day, do it all over again.
I’m working on my “stay” command because I follow Dad wherever he goes. He says it’s driving him bonkers but I’m sure he doesn’t mean it. I will often just sit and stare at him, 20 or 30 minutes sometimes. They say it’s because I’m in love with him, but it’s just because, em, yeah, I am in love with him! Overall I’m doing great and am very happy.
Xena, we are over the moon that you found the perfect home to settle in to – and the love of your life!
