Adoption Update: Tara

Tara was a 1-year-old cat who was adopted at one of our offsite partners, PetSmart Mapleview in Barrie. Read more about Tara’s transformation when she arrived at her new home.

Tara is now Jemma, and she is doing amazing! I came into PetSmart to look at hamsters quickly, and to my surprise there were rescue cats for adoption. I looked at a few cats. But something about Jemma at the time pulled me in. She was so scared. TARA-fied actually. She was ducked down low in her kitty litter.

I left that day thinking to myself, ‘I have to bring my family back to take her home’. The next day the four of us drove back to PetSmart, prepared to take her home. Jemma was very scared and could likely hide her whole life from us. It made us all second guess our decision. So, we went home empty handed.

All day and night I thought to myself, ‘Yes, she’s scared. Maybe she didn’t have a good first year of life. Maybe she had no love, maybe she was abused, maybe she was cold and lonely out there.’ So, the next day we came back with no other option but to bring her home and surround her with so much love, with hopes that one day she would give us love back. That lasted about 2 days.

Now she owns our house. She is everywhere and anywhere. She has the best hiding spots. But she always comes out at the right time to purr and roll on her side for a belly rub. She’s not the same cat that was once sitting in her kitty litter at PetSmart. She gives us all so much and we give her patience. Patience to open up and see she can trust us. Every day gets better, and she is the most perfect addition to our family.

Happy Tails, Jemma! We couldn’t be more happy to hear how you have settled in!
