We received this one-year update from the delightful Penny, who has made some amazing progress in her first year with her family:
Penny just had her Gotcha Anniversary and it was unanimous: We all love her to pieces!!! She continues to make progress and come out of her shell, and we continue to love watching her do it! We’ve stopped counting the dogs she greets. Penny walks towards them, with her glorious tail wagging up high and sniffs.
We’ve started now to count the people Penny will go up to and sniff, and that is proving to be more of a challenge for her. She’s only gone to and sniffed three people’s hands so far, but she’s making progress and she has lots of time so we’re not disappointed!
We have dogs visiting often and she is always quite happy when there is another dog around. She prances around with her tail up high, immediately takes over the visitor’s bed and growls if necessary to defend it. We drop her for play dates at dog friends regularly too and she enjoys those. At one of them, she has her own chair – talk about spoiled!
She had a great Christmas and was spoiled with a can of wet food (she thought she’d died and gone to heaven!) and some big Milkbones. Sometimes we think she just likes to carry things around in her mouth and “possess” them rather than eat them!
Penny loves her walks! She never complains about winter weather and when I ask, “Want to go walkies?” she always leaves her bed and comes to the front door to sit and get her leash on. Penny never stops walking in protest of the cold and gets lots of praise for being such a lovely little walker! Penny comes when we call her to start walking again after a sniff or pee. We call it ‘checking her pee-mail’!
We all love Penny and are enjoying the many little progresses she makes!
Happy Tails, Penny! We love hearing about how brave and confident you are becoming. Enjoy those walks!
