We received this delightful update from Duey, now named Duke!
Duke is doing well! Healthy, happy all 44 pounds of him. He clearly hasn’t missed a meal since I adopted him on March 20th. Note Duke weighed around 20lbs at the time.
From the start, it felt like we rescued each other.
Duke is a people-loving dog through and through. He greets most everyone with excitement, and will only let out a light bark if someone shows up unexpectedly. He’s been doing wonderfully with in-home training and continues to work with a trainer been a great support for him.
He is incredibly polite, and only really tries to push my buttons when I haven’t had a chance to “zip around” with him in the yard, he definitely needs his daily play and exercise.
At home, Duke is affectionate and full of personality. He loves snuggling, belly rubs, kisses and puzzle toys that make him think. He’s a curious mind, and will always try to work out a solution when presented with a challenge. He has a big appetite, especially for duck treats.
Duke absolutely adores our neighbourhood kids and can’t get enough of them. He also loves his people; Grandma, Auntie Sar, and Uncle Ty are all high on his list. He enjoys being outside no matter the weather, happily taking in both cold air and sunshine, always eventually finding a shady spot to rest when he gets tired.
He also has a surprising passion for digging holes, so much so that I’ve joked he may need to be put to work on a construction site in the Collingwood/Blue Mountain area if anyone needs help.
Most of all, Duke is loved deeply and he gives that love right back. I feel incredibly grateful for Northern Reach Network and all their efforts in rescuing animals, and for the Georgian Triangle Humane Society for bringing Duke into my life. A special shout out to Jill, Jamie, and Jean (The J. Trifecta) and the GTHS team formaking it all happen.
