On Friday, July 5th our fourth annual Kittypalooza adoption event will be kicking off!
This exciting feline-focused, 2-day adoption event is held at the beginning of summer with the goal of helping GTHS manage the high volume of cats and kittens that have already come through the shelter already this year, and also allow us to help all those we expect to see through our doors over the next few months as well.
Our GTHS team of staff and dedicated volunteers busily work away for weeks and weeks leading up to Kittypalooza, setting out to promote the event, completing an extraordinary amount of administrative prep work, and of course, ensuring our cats and kittens are happy, healthy and ready to find their purrrfect homes!
The GTHS is aiming high with the event again this year, as we anticipate having 100 adoptable cats and kittens available and hope to find families for them all over the course of the 2-day event.
“We have roughly 40 kittens in foster care that will be arriving prior to Kittypalooza, plus some new additions being transferred in from other rescues, as well as those currently available. We came SO close to emptying the shelter last year; we’re hoping to reach that goal this time.” stated Ayrlea Manchester, Adoption Coordinator for the GTHS. “It is certainly a lofty goal, but it would make an incredible impact to the lives of these cats and kittens, so we are aiming high.”
To attract potential adopters and encourage the adoption option, the society has opted to do significantly reduced adoption fees for the entire event again this year. All cats and kittens are just $25 to adopt and our FIV+ kitties are adoptable by donation. Each adoption fee includes the spay/neuter surgery, up-to-date vaccinations, parasite treatment, and a microchip.
Each year between 1300 and 1500 animals enter the GTHS animal shelter program, and that number is just continuing to grow. Kittypalooza will aim to find 100 of these animals loving homes. Kittypalooza is truly a massive undertaking which, if as successful as we hope, will really make a huge impact throughout the rest of kitten season. “We are so fortunate to have an amazing pet-loving community, who choose adoption and happily welcome homeless cats and kittens into their homes.”
Last year we saw excited adopters lining up at our doors at 9am for a 12pm open and can’t wait to see the turn out this year! Nothing beats seeing smiling faces (on both kids and adults) as they anxiously wait at our doors, with cat carrier in hand, ready to find their new best fur-friend!
