Hopes are high that this year’s GTHS adoptathon, coined, Kittypalooza, will be one for the record books. The adoption event, being sponsored by Maddy Gillis with Four Seasons Remax, will be held July 6th, 7th and 8th between 12-4pm at the GTHS Animal Shelter at 549 Tenth Line in Collingwood. With over 100 cats and kittens looking for forever homes, the animal shelter is hoping to attract potential adopters from across Ontario to the three day event.
“We have roughly 40 kittens in foster care that will be arriving prior to Kittypalooza. With more waiting to come in, we are hoping to empty the shelter over this weekend event.” stated Ayrlea Manchester, Adoption Supervisor for the GTHS. “It’s an ambitious goal, but it would make a significant impact to the lives of these cats and kittens, so we are aiming high.”
To attract potential adopters, the society has dropped adoption prices to record lows for the adoption event. All cats and kittens are $25 to adopt and seniors are by donation. Each adoption fee includes the spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, parasite treatment, and an ID microchip.
“Each year between 1300 and 1500 animals enter the GTHS animal shelter program. This event will aim to find 100 of them loving homes. Kittypalooza is a huge undertaking that can really make an impact throughout the rest of kitten season. The event takes the participation of over 40 volunteers, collaboration from our veterinary partners and support from our community businesses in order to be a success.” stated Sonya Reichel, executive director for the GTHS. “We are so grateful to our pet-loving community for coming out and welcoming homeless cats and kittens into their homes. It is certainly a win-win-win!”
