Hi, I’m Bruno! 🐾
Hey there, I’m Bruno. I’ve been hanging out at GTHS for 125 now. When I first got here, I wasn’t exactly jumping up to meet new people. I came from another rescue looking for a fresh start, but let’s just say I wasn’t keen on making new friends right away. I kept my distance, played it cool, and didn’t make any promises to anyone.
But the GTHS team? They didn’t give up on me. They helped me work through some of my reactivity with other dogs and new people, giving me time to adjust at my own pace. The muzzle training, for example—wasn’t so bad after all. It’s actually made me feel more confident and opened up a whole new world of experiences.
Now, I’m still a bit of a tough nut to crack when it comes to new faces. But I’ll let you in on a little secret…once I trust you….that’s when I show you the real Bruno. Keep this quiet (because I have to keep up my tough-guy appearance)….but once I consider you a friend, I’m loyal, affectionate, and always ready for some snuggles. You’ll even catch me trying to fit into a chair that’s way too small for me, just because I love being close to you.
I’m just waiting for the right family—the kind of people who will accept me for me and understand that I need time to feel safe. But once I do, I’ll be your best buddy for life. Could that be you?
Hopeful High Fives,
Bruno

Hi there, I’m Riley.
When I arrived at the GTHS, I didn’t have much time to settle in. Within 24 hours, I gave birth to my puppies—the Cereal Crew! It was a big moment, but the team here made sure I had everything I needed to keep my little ones safe and comfortable. Watching them grow and find amazing homes has been the happiest part of my journey so far.
Now, it’s my turn to find a loving home, but it’s taking a bit longer. I’ve been here for over 125 days, and in that time, I’ve been working hard to grow my confidence. Cars? They’re still not my favourite. Meeting new people? I’m learning that not everyone is so scary. It hasn’t been easy, but the volunteers and staff have been so gentle and patient with me, giving me the time I need to trust again.
My human friends here at the GTHS say I’m a bit of a sweetheart—and it’s true! I love quiet moments, soft voices, and snuggling with the people I trust. I’m just a little shy, so I need someone who will see my potential and give me the chance to blossom.
Long stays like mine come with challenges. I’ve needed special care and extra time with the amazing team here to help me feel secure. Every meal, every walk, every kind word—it all means so much. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the generosity of people who believe in giving shy pups like me a chance.
I dream of finding a family who will love me for who I am and give me the patience I need to feel safe and happy. Could you be the one to help me start this new chapter in my life?
With love and hope,
Riley 🐾

Healing Care, New Beginnings: The Story of Mr. Business
I don’t know how I ended up alone by the side of the road. My memories of that time are blurry – I just remember the fear, and the strange, painful stiffness that kept me from moving. My world had shrunk to that one tiny patch of roadside where I lay, unable to cry out for help.
Then, everything changed. Strong arms lifted me gently. I remember the softness of a blanket and the hum of a warm car engine. It was the first time in forever I felt…safe.
The next thing I knew, I was somewhere bright and warm. The humans who found me alone on the roadside brought me to a place called the Georgian Triangle Humane Society (or GTHS, for short). I didn’t know it at the time, but this place would give me my second chance.
The team wasted no time. They examined me carefully, murmuring words I didn’t understand but that sounded kind. They poked, prodded, and eventually took these strange pictures of my insides (I think they called them X-rays). They thought I might have broken bones, but nope—my problem was on the outside. My fur was so matted it had turned into a solid, painful prison. I could barely move, let alone clean myself.
I was scared, but they kept me calm. They spoke to me softly and assured me I was going to be okay. They even gave me something to help me sleep while they worked their magic.
When I woke up, I was lighter. Free. I could feel the air against my skin for the first time in what felt like forever. They told me it took over two hours to remove all the matted fur. I wish I could have told them how grateful I was (and still am), but I did my best to show it with my purrs and cuddles.
As the days passed, I started to feel like myself again. I could walk, stretch, even play a little. And my new haircut was something to marvel at…I truly felt like the king of the jungle with my lion-inspired ‘do! And the humans at the GTHS? They’re incredible. They fed me, loved me, and made sure I healed both inside and out.
Two weeks after my arrival at the GTHS, I was sleek, healthy, and ready for my next chapter—a loving home. That’s when my story truly began.
Now, I spend my days lounging in the sun, watching birds and squirrels through big patio doors and picture windows. My nights? I sleep under the covers on a soft down duvet, right in the middle of the bed, where I belong. My humans have even upgraded my name: Mr. Archie Business. Fancy, right?
I follow them wherever they go—I’ve learned the best company is always close by. My humans call me the sweetest cat they’ve ever had, and honestly, I think they might be right.
Thanks to GTHS and the kindness of everyone who supports them, I have the life I always dreamed of. From scared and stuck to warm, loved, and truly at home—this is what second chances look like.
Purrs and gratitude,
Mr. Archie Business

Healing Hearts, Happy Tails, and a Second Chance
Hi, friends—it’s me, Buford! I’m the big, goofy guy with the waggiest tail and the best humans cheering me on. I’ve been on quite the adventure, and guess what? It’s all thanks to my amazing GTHS family and their never-give-up attitude.
When I first arrived at the GTHS, my shoulder was in rough shape. I had this pesky wound that just wouldn’t heal. It was itchy, sore, and—let’s be real—not my best look. But I didn’t let it get me down. I mean, who has time to sulk when there are belly rubs to enjoy and people to entertain?
Dr. Steph led the charge, trying everything to help me get better. From special creams and medications to this fancy light therapy – she wouldn’t stop looking for the next option to help me heal. And let me tell you, those light therapy sessions were something else—kind of like a spa day, but with extra snacks. Things seemed to be going okay, but then my wound took a turn for the worse.
That’s when Dr. Tamara and the hospital team stepped in. They decided surgery was my best shot. They removed the unhealthy tissue from my wound, stitched up the good parts, and sent some of the tissue to the lab to check for cancer. (Spoiler alert: No cancer! Big win for Team Buford!) But recovery wasn’t going to be easy—I overheard that I needed 24/7 care to make sure my shoulder healed properly.
This is when “Buford’s Buddies” was born. Isn’t that a cool name? This incredible crew of GTHS volunteers and staff and took turns sitting with me every day, making sure I didn’t mess with my stitches (even when they got super itchy!). At night and on weekends, I got to hang out with a super special “Buford Buddy”, who took me to her home and made sure I got all the love and couch time I could handle.
It wasn’t just a team effort—it was a family effort. Everyone at the GTHS was behind me all the way, and their determination made all the difference. Dr. Steph’s constant search for solutions, Dr. Tamara’s expertise, and the love and care from my Buddies? They gave me the best chance at a happy, healthy life.
And guess what? It worked! My shoulder is healing so well, my goofy grin is bigger than ever, and now, I’m ready for something I never thought possible: a brand-new home and family to call my own.
The GTHS never gave up on me, just like they don’t give up on any of the thousands of pets they care for every year. And you know what makes all this possible? People like you. Your support gives pets like me the chance to heal, to feel safe, and to find hope when everything seems impossible.
Thank you for believing in me.
Love,
Buford 🐾

Belladonna: The First FIV Positive Cat Adopted in 2016
In October 2016, Belladonna arrived at the GTHS, a new mother with a litter of kittens in tow. As the team welcomed them into our care, they discovered that Belladonna was FIV-positive. While this diagnosis could have cast a shadow over her future, the team understood that with proper care and a safe, indoor environment, she could still lead a joyful life.
With warmth and compassion, the GTHS volunteers and staff ensured that Belladonna and her kittens received everything they needed. They provided a safe space where she could nurture her little ones, reminding us of the incredible strength of love, even in the face of uncertainty.
In December 2016, after weeks of care and connection and with her kittens stronger and no longer dependent, Belladonna found her new, loving family—the first FIV-positive cat adopted through the GTHS. Her journey serves as a powerful reminder that a diagnosis does not define one’s worth or potential for happiness.
Since Belladonna’s adoption, our approach to FIV testing has changed. In 2022, we decided to stop testing all incoming cats for FIV, recognizing that many can live long, happy lives without that barrier to adoption. This change reflects our commitment to ensuring every cat has the opportunity to find a second chance story, just like Belladonna.
We are profoundly grateful to our community for supporting pets like Belladonna. Your generosity provides the healing care they need while in our care, allowing us to transform lives and foster connections that matter.

A Surprise Arrival and a Cozy New Beginning – Remembering 2022
It’s been a while since that special day back in 2022, but it’s one I’ll never forget. It was a “Community Cat Day” at the GTHS—a day when outdoor cats like me get to come in for check-ups and a little extra care to stay healthy and safe. The GTHS does this to give community cats like me a better chance at life. I was there for a simple health check and to be spayed, but little did everyone know, these plans were about to change in a big way.
While the team was getting me settled in, I knew my babies were on their way – a little detail the humans didn’t know just yet. My five tiny, orange bundles of joy were about to surprise everyone as they made their entrance into the world right then and there!
The GTHS team acted fast, making sure each of my little ones arrived safely. They wrapped up my babies, keeping them cozy and warm, and even gave them extra oxygen to help with their first little breaths. It was all so sudden, but the gentle voices and warm touches of the team helped me feel calm and safe. And I knew that we were in good hands.
We spent those first precious days together at the GTHS, surrounded by care and compassion. The volunteers and staff at the GTHS are committed to making sure that all animals in their care feel truly loved and safe.
Thanks to the generous donors in our community, pets like me and my kittens receive the immediate care we need during critical moments. Your donations provide the essentials—warmth, nourishment, and a secure environment—that make all the difference in our lives. Because of your kindness, the GTHS Hospital Team could respond swiftly, ensuring that my kittens and I were safe and comfortable from the very start. Your support not only saves lives but also creates countless cozy beginnings and happy endings for animals in need. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being the heroes behind our second chances.
With all my love and gratitude,
Mama Cat 🐾
Hello, friends! My name is Rutabaga, and I’m here to share the story of how I, along with my eight little ones—affectionately known as the Potato Pups because, well, they’re all little spuds, each with a name to match—traveled a long way to get a fresh start. We come from a place wayyyy up north that you can only reach by plane. Life is a bit different there, with dogs like us often roaming free even if we have people who look out for us. But for a new mom like me, raising eight tiny pups was no easy feat. You might have noticed that a few of us are sporting some red fur, but please don’t worry. It’s just some leftover paint from a little mischief back home, and it’ll grow out soon.
Some friends at Northern Reach Network noticed that we needed help. So, they joined forces with other humane societies in Southern Ontario to give us and many other dogs a chance at a safe future. Thanks to their teamwork, a group of 59 dogs and puppies made the journey south. I’m told that the GTHS stepped up to take in 13 of us, the second-largest group, including my family and a few other little pups from other litters who needed a place to land.
I’ve been wondering how a small organization like the GTHS could welcome so many animals at once. I’ve learned quickly that it is because of their amazing team of foster parents who were ready to greet us with open arms. Our foster dad – we call him Paw Paw – has a cozy setup just for us, with comfy beds, nourishing food, and plenty of space for my pups to play and live the puppy life.
Being here, surrounded by love and all the basics we need, has lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. All these little comforts—the warm bedding, nutritious meals, and safe shelter—are only possible because of the support from people like you. Thanks to the GTHS transfer program and foster program, and their readiness to welcome families like mine, my pups have a safe place to grow until they’re ready to find their own families.
Your kindness and generosity make these journeys possible for so many of us. Every bit of support helps provide essentials like food, shelter, and warmth for pets in need. From my family to yours this holiday season, thank you for helping us find our way to safety and for giving us this precious chance at a new beginning.
With love and a grateful heart,
Rutabaga

Hello, my name is Piper. I’m known to be a little shy, but I’ve been told that my story is a special one. If you look into my eyes now, you’ll see happiness and love—but it wasn’t always that way.
There was a time when my eyes held only worry and fear. I didn’t know who to trust, where I belonged, or if I’d ever find a place to truly feel safe. When I arrived at the GTHS, I was so scared. Unfamiliar voices and loud barking echoed throughout the kennels. I would tuck myself away, hoping to stay hidden from the world. It was safer that way—or so I thought.
But then, slowly, things began to change. The volunteers and staff at the GTHS didn’t rush me or expect me to be brave right away. They were gentle and kind. They spoke to me in soft voices and gave me treats, which I decided I liked very much. They brought me toys, cozy blankets, and spent time just sitting with me, letting me know it was okay to take my time.
Little by little, the fear in my eyes began to fade. When my new family came to meet me, I felt something I hadn’t felt in a long time—hope. I was nervous, but there was something different about them. They looked at me with love and warmth, and I felt in my heart that they were my people.
The day they took me home was the day my eyes changed forever. My eyes no longer carry the sadness and fear I felt before; now they radiate love and an inner calm I never thought I would feel again. When I look into my family’s eyes, I see a family who will always love me and keep me safe and give me all the belly rubs I could ever want.
Thank you, GTHS, for helping me find this happiness. And thank you to everyone who supports this wonderful place. Your kindness is what made my second chance possible.
Lots of love,
Piper
